Make-Up Artistry Twyla McDowell, MUA.
Icons-As a make-up artist how do you separate yourself from other make-up artist?
Twyla-The opportunity of being Trinidad born and moving to Brazil as a missionary at a very young age, has allowed me to adapt to people, different cultures, and situations effortlessly. I have a very friendly and approachable personality, and I’m always seeking to provide my clients with comfort and positive energy as I work. My reliability is up to par and because doing make-up is my passion, I am always up for a challenge and ready to learn something new each day. I am always exploring new and different techniques to provide the most flawless results and versatility.
Icons--You recently had a workshop for women, what inspired you to do so?
Twyla-I work with a non-profit organization called the Leading Ladies whose current mission is to uplift and empower women. When I was asked to do a workshop to represent this amazing group at an event hosted for women fighting against domestic violence, I was immediately touched by the cause. My giving spirit was more than happy to be granted the opportunity to share my talent and teach these beautiful women the basic steps and knowledge of makeup.
Icons-How does doing make up define you as an artist?
Twyla-I am very open-minded and creative when I do makeup. I am quick and with my determination and perseverance, I am able to recreate the unthinkable and make transformations from subtle to drastic. Some of my techniques are unique and because I am a perfectionist, I am always ready to improve.
Twyla-Seeing a smile on my clients face and knowing that they are completely satisfied and pleased with my work is definitely the most rewarding thing about doing make-up.
Twyla-I see myself traveling nationwide; not only touching people’s faces but touching their hearts and making a difference in a positive way that will uplift their spirits.
