Icons-How will you describe yourself as a music artist?
Shantelle-As a musician I sing mostly all genre’s of music, because it consumes me as a artist. My parents who are from Grenada and my background which includes family in Trinidad, Canada, England and St Lucia has allowed me to be diverse when I'm making music. My music is universal and can be reached through everyone. As an artist I try to include every element, as well as implement factors that not only Caribbean people can listen to but music that can be enjoyed by the World. I know that I am categorized as a soca artist, but I don't consider myself to be just that, because I produce world music. It's not in any category to me because my music is just music, that shares emotions.

Icons-How did you launch your singing career?
Shantelle-I come from a musical background. My dad who has been a Musician for 30 years has always inspired me to do what I love. Singing is a part of me because it defines who I am as an individual. I was timid for a long time, but realized my talent was going to waste. No one was aware that I was capable of doing this because I was hiding it from the world. Basically, three years ago, I finally stepped out of my shell and showed the world what I was made of. Some were shocked and amazed to See that talent come from me but the support and love was overwhelming, because not only my family and friends enjoyed my work, but the public did too.

Icons-As a singer how do you separate yourself from other singers in the game?
Shantelle-It's hard to separate yourself from other singers in the industry because we all have the similar goals. Some people just do it for money, but music for me is a way of relaxing, or getting through a ruff time, whether I'm happy or sad, music gives me comfort, and allows me think outside the box. What separates's us is our individuality. Two people can do the same song but interpret it in a different way. So when you ask what makes my sound different, my answer is simply me. I am my own person.

Icons-Some people don't know, but you recently design a section in Borokeete USA for Labor-day 2012? How did this opportunity fall in your lap?
Shantelle-Designing is one of my passions. I love to work with my hands. I use to cut my moms bed sheets to make a skirt, shirts etc. But last year, I was approached with the opportunity through a friend of mines to design a costume, and I was a little hesitant at first, because I wasn't sure how people would perceive my work, but I realized once again in life you have to take chances; and I took it in as my own an ran with it, and now I'm really excited about the response. The feedback for the section is has been very good. Mas is part of my culture. I’ve been playing mas since I can walk so it's truly and honor to showcase my work. I feel truly blessed.

Icons-Can we expect to see you designing more costumes in the future?
Shantelle-Yes you definitely will. I have few offers in the works, and I have something for Miami carnival 2012. I already have 2 designs completed for carnival 2013. I'm not sure where they will fit in but it will work, I have stepped out of my box, so you will be hearing and seeing more of my work whether it's music, costume designing, or working on my own club, but I'm definitely not going anywhere.
