The girl behind the hardware clutch, and fashionista at its best.

Melissa C. shares her story with us...

Icons 1-You create hardware clutches, how did this all started?
Mel- It started out as a DIY project. I wanted to create a clutch like the ones in stored. That I refused to pay for As soon as I made my first one from a folder, someone asked about buying it and the requests kept on coming, so it evolved from there. Pretty soon I was experimenting with fabrics and different closures for Them.

Icons- 2- Your style and fashion sense is unique, can you share some fashion tips with us?
Mel- I don't consider myself a fashionista but there is a rule I abide by when shopping. I don't buy things that are two trendy. I'm cheap and trends fade too quickly. Before purchasing anything makes sure it is flattering to your body and you can wear it in different ways until you (not the crowd) get bored with it.

Icons- 3- In a nutshell, how will you describe yourself to others?
Mel- I'm a weirdo. Lol... A creative weirdo. I like art in all forms and love self-expression. If I'm not creating Purses I'll be creating something else.
Icons 4- You balance established designs and incorporated in to your own how that work does for you?
Mel-I wish I could say it’s all me, but I can't. All the designs stem from a collective effort. I like to give people creative liberties so that’s why I have them email me. I want them to give me ideas and bring them to life with some minor adjustments. For example, someone will want "hot pink with leopard and purple and orange" and it's my job to translate that into something that isn't obnoxious but still what they asked for.

Icons 5- Who would you consider a style icon? Feel free to share anything else with us, we will love to know.
Mel -I absolutely adore Solange. I know everyone is on the Beyoncé train right now but I love Solange effortless style. She makes me want to paint her. She is art on legs. There's something so understated but completely bold about her. She speaks volumes without uttering a word. I love and am inspired my understated elegance. Kudos to the outgoing and vivacious people but I connect with those that are in the background.

The Keri Monae edition by Taryn Crawford

Keri Monae was an extraordinaire woman.  Today she is no longer on earth with us but her presence and goals continue to live through her sister, and unbreakable bond these two have for 29 years, and that bond recently broke by death.  This week feature is dedicated to Taryn she is a loving sister that is trying to grieve with the lost of her other half by accomplishing the things that was left undone

Icons-what's the meaning behind k-lyric?
Taryn-Wow, how can I respond to this question……The meaning behind K-Lyric as my sister, she was a positive role model to many people who she encountered. She was beautiful, bold and full of life. K-Lyric was an aspiring poet who shared with her audience a world of experience with words of wisdom, knowledge, love, hurt, pain and everyday issues we face today. K-Lyric was very much involved in giving back to her community. K-Lyric exuded humbleness, strength and creativeness which will remain in many of our hearts for years to come.

Icons- your sister was a very inspirational person, she accomplished so much in a short time, what was some of her goals?
Taryn-Although Keri had a deep passion for poetry, she also loved music and acting. Keri received the opportunity to write a mini script for One Roach Productions. Its a short independent film called Family Business which in February of this year it was filmed. In addition, Keris ultimate goal for 2012 was to publish her book. This book would consist of all her writings for women everywhere of all ages and ethnicity's. She thrived to get her name recognized by those prominent in the public eye so she could develop a fan base for her work.

Icons- your sister recently passed away, and you were extremely close with her, how do you plan on fulfilling her goals?
Taryn-Yes, Keri and I were more than close, we were inseparable. She was my baby sister for 29 years and when she passed away I lost part of myself; however I knew that she would want me to continue to move on with my life no matter what the situation.  As I am far from being a poet, I am currently working on a few projects in honor of Keri with three of her friends/associates she has collaborated with in the past. First, we created the “Keri Monae Foundation” which our main focus is to help those with a talent gain exposure including providing the resources/workshops to direct them in the right direction. Keri was apart of two large non-for profit women organizations, L.A.C.E.S and Struggles Corp so we definitely would like to keep her spirit shining by continuing to give back. Lastly, since Keri’s wish was to publish a book, I am partnering with Tovah Lounge located in Brooklyn on weekly Open MIC Nights. (A Spoke N’ Heard Event) Our target date is Thursday October 29th. These events will feature Poetry/Song/Book Reading. The proceeds of these events will benefit toward the funding of her book.
Further details will be announced through social media sites, etc. soon.

Icons-Why do you feel the need to push forth with Keri dreams?
Taryn-Keri was heavily active with our community so this is a great way to get involved and become apart of something bigger than ourselves. I’m such a people person, love conversing and learning about different cultures and the world surrounding me. If I didn't continue to push Keri’s dreams ahead then I would feel less than because she always gave 110% when working on a project. We are excited about the progress and publishing of her book and hope to push it out by late next year 2013.

Icons-What wisdom will you share with our readers about Keri; I'm sure they will live to know?
Taryn-Each day we wake up, we complain about the little things in life. When Keri was diagnosed with CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) in 2010, I was terrified however my sister never gave up hope. Keri spent 8 months in the hospital of this year from January until July 23rd when she passed away but she never gave up her fight to live. Keri kept a beautiful smile on her face because she held on to her FAITH. We all need a tutorial on life and how to be thankful for our health, family and friends. Stop concerning yourself with unimportant things which create negativity around you. We must forgive and forget as we are not perfect. Pray and ask God to guide you through your problem or situation. Never give up, continue to hold on and remain positive in all you do; embrace your accomplishments. Keri always lived by the statement “Poetry is therapeutic” Whenever she felt like falling, poetry was her crutch. So, I kindly express to each person reading this blog, please find your crutch when you feel like you’re at the breaking point. Take the following message below with you from Emily Dickinson and stay blessed, thank you all so much.
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without words,
And never stops at all.”

Trudi-Ann Murray, Soul Blogger

Natural beauty and brains to match
Icons- you recently started a new blog, what was the reason behind it?
Trudi-  There are many reasons why I decided to start my own blog site; influencing, inspiring, motivating, uplifting and simply being able to use words to ease whatever tensions others might be experiencing being the primary reasons. Words are very powerful and if used wisely and with passion, we can touch and change lives for the better.

Icons- Going through some of your blogs, I notice that you are telling a story, what is the message you would like you readers to received?
Trudi- We all perceive and interpret things differently, thus I'm not quite sure what message(s) will be received. Nevertheless, I'd like for every reader to know they are not alone in whatever quandary they're enduring. I want at least one person's life touched. Empowerment isn't as prevalent as we'd like it to be and so, I want to ultimately empower others in such a way, they too can empower others they come in contact with.

So elegant
Icons-How would you define what you do versus other bloggers?
Trudi- I've never compared my blog site to that of others; as my idea to create a blog site was a spur of the moment thought I brought to light a little less than a month ago. I would say, however, I plan on staying on a positive path; as that is missing in a lot of our lives. Despite what others think, people gravitate to positivity more than they do the contrary.

Icons- I know my readers will be interested to know who can relate to your blog?
Trudi-  Everyone can relate to my blog - man, woman and child! My blog site isn't geared towards a particular group of people; rather the general public. You see, we all have similar struggles and stories to share and that is another reason why I chose not to limit my blog site to a specific set of people.

Her love for her son goes deep within, she embrace him as much as she can.
Icons-Being a blogger you must be consistent, are you up for the challenge?
Trudi- Indeed, consistency is essential in running a blog site. In all reality, consistency is an imperative part of life. If we are not consistent, we heighten the chance of others not trusting and/or believing in us. We have to make sure we don't exude behaviors of one who's discombobulated and being consistent is one of the only ways of showing that we are not confused in the mind. I am ready for all blogging entails and hope I am able to please the audience reading and supporting my vision to impact lives. Thank you for granting me this opportunity to briefly share my story with you.

Addie Shares her fashion tips, and how she was inspired to start her new blog

Icons- you have a unique sense of style how did this occur?
Addie-I haven't always been so fashion forward I use to always stick to the simple cookie cutter fashion rules. For example If I wore yellow shoes I have to wear a yellow purse. Until I got out of high school and I was a sophomore in collage I started to break free and went with what I like. It's been working for me ever since.

Icons-people are curious about becoming a fashionista, what advice will you give them?
Addie-It's always nice to ask for a second opinion if you are not sure on a certain look. However, it doesn't mean you have to listen to it and go with their choice. There's no instructions when it come to fashion if you have on a great smile and a positive attitude anything will look great! Take risk and allow yourself to listen to your gut feeling about fashion.
Icons- as a fashionista, what advice will you give us about following trends?
Addie- I really do love trends especially when I can spot them without reading a magazine and before it goes mainstream. Not ever trend is for everybody. Im not a big fan of the heel less shoe trend it's cute but not on me. I love looking at other people wearing them but I didn't get on that train yet. I'm not the type of person just because a lot people is rocking I can't get it that's silly in my book if I like I will buy it. But I'm always mixing new trends with my things such as ab old high waist skirt keeping what I wear still a reelection of my style.

Icons-How do you fashion style stand out from the rest?
Addie- I guess my style has a lot of must have staple closest pieces from The high waists pants and skirts, chiffon tops, and bright colors. I'm great at thrift store shopping when I get into one I morph into a different person I form a 3 fashion eye lol. I'm not afraid to mix old and new together that's the best way to stand out.

Icons- Do you wear vintage, or vintage inspired shoes with your clothes I know some of my readers will be interested in your answer. If you do, what stores do you shop in?
Addie-Unfortunately I do not but I'm curious about where I can get some.

Icons-You recently started a new blog; what lead you into this new project?
Addie -My Instagram followers got me into blogging. I don't know one thing about blogging but I'm going to try my best to keep up with.

Icons what are some of your favorite fashion tips?
Addie- Invest in a small gold coil metal belt, its the best fashion item to have in your closet.
